TRAIL BEAUTIFICATION
Keith Garnes, 370 Spruce Creek Drive, is shown
staining the trail markers on his property. This is the trail that
connects Spruce Creek Drive with Johnson Place.
'The next
morning as they were driving to church, she said, 'I can't believe that
you're insisting on doing this! You know, if you're going to give that
silly sermon on horseback riding, I'm just going to stay in the car
during the service.'
He
said, 'OK, then, suit yourself!', so she stayed in the car! Entering
church before the service, the preacher had a sudden inspiration and
gave a hellfire and brimstone sermon on SEX that just had the
congregation in awe.
As
the congregation filed out of the church, some of the members saw his
wife sitting in the car and approached her window. One of them said,
'Wow! You just missed one of the best sermons your husband has ever
given!'
She
said, 'Yeah, right! What does he know about it! He talks big, but he's
only tried it twice in his life! 'Once before we were married and once
after, and he fell off both times’.

Security Strap
We all want to feel more secure in the saddle…
including me! Even if your horse is well prepared, unexpected situations
can and do arise!
Adapted
from the old design of the ‘nightlatch’, the Security Strap attaches
around the pommel of a western saddle to provide an open hand hold when
you need it. The Security Strap is designed to stay in a raised position
so you always have an open space to reach into, unlike traditional
nightlatches that tend to lay flat against the pommel so you can’t get
your hand under it in time to do any good when you need it.
Folks
think that hanging on to the saddle horn is enough, but if you’ve ever
had a horse really jump with you, that horn was most likely pulled out
of your hand and you’re left with nothing but a hope and a prayer! I’ve
used night latches for years on
colts or unpredictable horses, but I never seem to
have a horse go out from under me when I’m expecting it. This new design
is ideal for those unexpected moments with horses!
With the
unique design of the Security Strap, you’ll always have something to
hold on to in all kinds of situations; when a horse hesitates at water,
unexpectedly lunges up a hill, transitions to the canter, or passes by a
spooky spot on the trail.
Select either a laced-grip or smooth-grip style.

QUICK TIPS
For
a quick bandage to hold ice in place on a horse’s leg, slide a tube sock
onto the leg, then put the ice inside the sock. Wrap above and below the
sock to hold it in place.
When
you're ready to apply oily fly repellent, slip your hand into a plastic
bag, then into a tube sock. Your hand stays clean, and the fly repellent
goes exactly where you want it to. Keep that sock just for fly
repellent.
Instead of
using a rag, put your hand inside a sock to wipe your horse's eye,
inside his ears, his nostrils, or under his tail. Cut off the toe when
it gets yucky, and continue using the rest of the sock.
Use the
hand-in-sock technique for cleaning leather, polishing silver, or any
dusting chores.
To keep
the cuffs of your long-sleeved shirt clean, cut off the toe of a clean
sock and slide the sock up to cover your cuffs and lower arm.

WHO IS THIS PERSON?

SERMON ON HORSEBACK RIDING
(Submitted by Stephanie Richmond)
It
was Saturday night and the preacher still hadn't been able to think of a
sermon for the next morning.
About 9:00 p.m. He finally said to his wife, 'Dear, I think I've come up
with the perfect sermon! I'm going to give a sermon about horseback
riding!
'She said, 'Don't be silly! You can't give a sermon about horseback
riding!'
He
replied, 'Well, it's going to have to do because I've preached on just
about every other subject I can think of.

Product Review

Australian Outback has a wonderful PACKABLE poncho
that attaches to your saddle with “D” rings. Made from lightweight
waterproof oilskin, it has a generous hood and 4 snaps down each side.
Easily stuffs into its own big pocket; just pull it out and it will keep
all of your saddle and most of you dry! If two of you have them, they
will snap together and can be used as a ground cloth or emergency tent.
Available from South Fork Tack in Oneida, the price is $79.95.

Stop in at Horse Stuff at

adjustable riding helmets. Horse riding is a dangerous activity!

5 REASONS THAT HUSBANDS ARE BETTER THAN HORSES:
Husbands
are less expensive to shoe than horses.
A lame
husband can still work.
They seldom
refuse to get into the vehicle.
If they are
playing “hard to get,” you may be able to run them down on foot.
They don’t like the lady next door just as well as
you, just because she fed him for three days straight.
5 REASONS
THAT HORSES ARE BETTER THAN HUSBANDS:
They smell
good when they sweat.
They look
good in leather.
You can repair their "clothes" with duct tape.
If you get
too fat for one you can shop for a bigger one.
If they
don't work out you can sell them.

HOW TO
CURE SOAPY ARMS
When you
bathe your horse, does water run down your arms, soaking your
shirtsleeves? It's pretty annoying, so try this: roll your sleeves above
the elbow and slip on a pair of water-absorbing armbands which you have
made by cutting the feet off of cotton tube socks.
Photo identified: The photo on page 1 is
Leslie Helm. In earlier days she did eventing (dressage, cross country
and stadium jumping) when they lived in the northeast. She and husband,
Ned, live at 515 Trailhead Lane. You have probably seen their horse
tank on the trail.
